Dry needling often produces a brief involuntary twitch as the trigger point releases. It is a strange sensation the first time, but short-lived, and usually followed by a noticeable easing of tightness.

Different treatment length

Acupuncture needles typically stay in for 20 minutes or more. Dry needling is usually a matter of seconds per point.

Which should you have?

If your problem is a specific tight, tender band of muscle limiting your movement, dry needling is generally the more direct route — particularly alongside a rehabilitation programme.
