Most aches settle on their own. Some do not — and when they linger, imaging can turn guesswork into a clear plan.

1. Pain that has not improved in six weeks

Soft tissue injuries usually show meaningful improvement within six weeks. If yours has plateaued, a scan can show whether a tendon or ligament is more damaged than the initial assessment suggested.

2. Swelling you can see or feel

Persistent swelling around a joint may point to bursitis, an effusion or a tendon sheath problem. Ultrasound shows fluid clearly and in real time.

3. Weakness rather than just pain

Losing strength — struggling to lift your arm overhead, for example — can indicate a rotator cuff tear. Ultrasound is well suited to assessing tear size and position.

4. Pain that catches or clicks

Mechanical symptoms often mean a structure is snapping over bone. Because ultrasound is dynamic, we can scan while you move and watch it happen.

5. You are considering an injection

Scanning before an injection confirms the diagnosis and lets us guide the needle precisely, which improves accuracy and outcomes.
