Book an assessment

Knowing what an appointment involves makes it easier to book one. This page covers what happens when you arrive, how to prepare and the questions people most often ask beforehand.

If anything here does not answer your question, contact the clinic and the team will talk it through with you.

What Happens At Your First Appointment

Five steps, from the questions you will be asked to the plan you agree together.

1

Your story

Your clinician asks about your symptoms, your history, the activities you do and the goals you have.

2

Assessment

They assess the relevant area and explain what they think may be contributing to your problem.

3

Further assessment if useful

Where appropriate, they will discuss whether further assessment or diagnostic imaging would add useful information.

4

Your questions

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and to discuss treatment or rehabilitation options.

5

Agreed next steps

The next steps are agreed with you, based on what the assessment found.

How To Prepare For Your Appointment

Nothing here is essential, but each one helps your clinician build a fuller picture in the time you have together.

Before you come in…

  • Bring any relevant medical information or previous reports you have
  • Note when the problem started and what makes it better or worse
  • Think about how it affects your normal activities
  • Bring a list of any medicines you take
  • Tell your clinician your goal, such as returning to work, walking, running or sleeping more comfortably
  • Wear clothing that allows the relevant area to be assessed where possible

If you are not sure whether something is relevant, bring it anyway or mention it at the appointment.

Common Questions Before Booking

If your question is not answered here, call us on 02038118464 and one of the team will talk it through with you.

No referral is needed to see us privately. If you are claiming through an insurer, they may ask for a GP referral first, so it is worth checking with them before you book.

If you are not sure, contact the clinic and describe the problem. A physiotherapy assessment is a suitable starting point for many musculoskeletal concerns, and your clinician will advise whether a scan or another service is appropriate once they have assessed you.

Both are available where the service can be provided in that format. Some examinations, investigations and treatments can only be carried out in person, and your clinician will tell you if that applies to you.

Appointment length depends on the service booked. The team will confirm how long to allow when you book.

Any relevant medical information or previous reports you have, and details of the medicines you take. Please wear clothing that allows the relevant area to be assessed where possible.

Yes. If further medical or surgical assessment is recommended, your clinician will explain the next steps and discuss the options with you.

You do not need to diagnose yourself before contacting us. Tell the team what problem you are experiencing, how it affects you and what you would like to get back to doing, and they can advise on the most appropriate appointment or next step.

Still not sure what to book? Tell us what is going on and we will point you to the right appointment.
